Sample the unique cultures of South America during this thrilling Panorama vacation! Begin in Manaus, Brazil, where a guided tour shows you the sights. Then, enjoy a "Meeting of the Waters" cruise and arrive at your jungle lodge in the Amazonian rainforest. Here visit a native Amazon village, discover flora and fauna on naturalist guided walks and boat rides, fish for piranhas, and visit the Monkey Jungle Reserve! Next, fly to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for a 4-night stay, and take in the sights of South America's largest city, including Sugar Loaf Mountain, Corcovado Mountain, and the cathedral. Fly to Iguassu Falls to see the magnificent waterfalls and tropical foliage, then fly to Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina. After a day of relaxing in Buenos Aires, fly to Bariloche in Patagonia and take a chairlift ride to Cerro Campanario. Your lake crossing journey then takes you on a boat cruise across Lago Nahuel Huapi, a drive through the forests and peaks of the Andes Mountains, a catamaran cruise across Lago Todos los Santos, and a picture stop at the Petrohue Rapids before reaching Puerto Varas, Chile. Your first stop will be the famous OPERA HOUSE, built in 1896 with materials imported from Europe. | Day 3 | Manaus-Amazon Jungle | (Sat.) Today, your "Meeting of the Waters" tour passes by the impressive British-built Custom House and the floating port. CRUISE along the chocolate-colored Rio Negro to its confluence with the yellow-gray Rio Solimoes, where the two rivers form the mighty Amazon. For four miles the differently colored bodies of water flow side by side and never mix! After lunch on the river, explore a JUNGLE ISLAND (if the water level is not too low) with fascinating native flora and fauna. | Day 4 | Amazon Jungle | (Sun.) Accompanied by a naturalist, enjoy a guided JUNGLE WALK introducing you to the flora and fauna that thrives in the Amazon. After lunch, depart the lodge in a motorized canoe to visit a Caboclo's NATIVE AMAZON VILLAGE to learn about their traditions, costumes, and culture. Also try your hand at pirahna fishing! This evening you may wish to venture back out on canoe with your naturalist into the flooded forest to appreciate the sounds of the jungle at night, with the possibility to spot small alligators (or other night creatures). Spend the day in the Sacred Valley of the Incas with a visit to the Inca baths of TAMBOMACHAY and the semi-circular Kenko Amphitheater with its stone altars and labyrinth of passages. stop at the ancient site of Puca Pucara before reaching the TEMPLE OF SACSAYHUAMAN, perched on a hillside overlooking Cuzco. It remains unfathomable how and when this fortress of gigantic stones-with some blocks weighing more than 350 tons-was built.
